WA aka WAIT AWHILE
Some weeks ago, MUM and DAD decided to move back to the West. It took ages to get settled as everything comes from the Eastern States, so we call it 'Wait Awhile'. I was reminded of Munch's painting 'The Scream' when I saw this headline in the local newspaper. Even John Farnham reckons we should say 'YES' - so why are some BIG PEOPLE so undecided?
Everyone in Perth grows lemons and limes and we call them the Matildas. Here is a picture of we bears watching the semi-final. As you can see, we were all a bit upset when they lost. Missy is planning to join the team. She keeps practising every day and throws Luds from one end of the basket to the other.
When our stuff arrived from Sydney, it took me ages to find my suitcase. I had packed it in one of the cartons but they all had teddy bears on them and all looked the same. Once we settled in, we begged MUM not to keep us in the cupboard all day so we can lie in our basket and look out the window and watch the Rottnest ferry sail by.
I caught up with Molly who was really pleased to see me. She still has the teddy MUM gave her to stop her licking her lips every time she sees me. As you can see in this next picture, I am still coming to terms with the changes. I miss Stan and Oli and Bertie. I am looking forward to summer so I can go back to Rottnest and hang out with the quokkas and have a few brewskies. As I am all grown up - MUM said I am now 16 - the ranger may not recognise me. Paws crossed on that one...
BUSSELTON
On the weekend we drove down to Busselton in our new car named Cesare and went to the Cinefest OZ film festival. It was great to be back in movie-mode. We also travelled on this train along the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere. I was hoping to see giant sharks in the ocean but there were only seagulls and their cute little babies hanging out on the pier.
When we were on the jetty in Busselton, I saw this creature. Who does it remind you of? Ouch...
PERTH ZOO
MUM and DAD decided they needed to check out the local zoo, to make sure that it was up to the standard of the ones we visited on the east coast in-between the COVID lockdowns. Well, it was simply smashing. I found this statue of MUM by the souvenir shop (ouch!) and then, lo and behold, this amazing bear by the restaurant. So, they made my day before it even began...
Everyone was really friendly and I met lots of furry creatures who became my new buddies. I was invited to join the Boys' Club by the Ruffed Lemurs who all looked like they had stuck their noses in the Cocaine Bears' sugar packet. Then I went for a swing across the gibbons' hangout. They invited me back next Thursday for another session.

I have to say it was one of the bestest days I have experienced so far in Wait Awhile. It was made extra special when DAD gave me these two cans of dingo lager to 'look after'. As you can see in this picture, I was one happy bear!
ROTTNEST
To celebrate DAD's birthday, we decided to catch the ferry to Rottnest. I was super excited as I was looking forward to meeting up with my quokka pals. I had my paws crossed hoping I wasn't going to run in to the ranger who had banned me from the island the last time 'cause I was found sharing a few drops of vino with a quokka at the Rotto hotel.
I was a bit upset when I saw this sign as it was a bit OTT. I thought I found my quokka pal I met last time. He was looking very healthy and said he had been to rehab and only nibbled on greens these days. As you can see in this pic, I was a bit disappointed as I had planned a brewskie celebration and couldn't even look at his new diet.
Afterwards, on the way home, I ran in to the real quokka I met the first time I visited Rotto. He told me that the one before was actually an imposter and 'cause all quokkas look the same, he pretended he was my long lost buddy. The real quokka told me he would pop by with his pals during the night for a party. The gang unzipped the door to our 'glamping' tent but unfortunately one of his buddies made a noise and woke MUM up. Imagine her surprise when she found quokkas celebrating in the bathroom. Needless to say, I got a clip around the baldies, but it was worth it! This has to be one of the bestest holidays ever...
HEATWAVE
This week it has been so hot here I left the basket and snuck into the fridge. I found a bottle of bubbles and as you can see, I am one happy bear!
ROTTNEST (AGAIN!)
Oh Happy Day! Here I am back on Rottnest Island. I think MUM and DAD forgot that we were here only 12 days ago and I wasn't going to remind them. MUM also bought me this 3D quokka postcard which has become my favourite possession. It is simply adorable - the postcard, not MUM - ouch!
My quokka mate was excited to see me again so soon. He introduced me to this little fella who kept hanging around looking for nibbles but I couldn't give him any just in case the ranger spotted us.
As you can see in these pictures, there are signs everywhere saying you can't do this and you can't do that... There is even a book about a quokka's guide to happiness. My quokka pal told me that he is waiting for the AI quokkas to appear and then he is going to leave the island clinging to the Rottnest Express.
This time we stayed in a 'villa' at Longreach. I spent most of my time sitting on the balcony railing looking at the blue sea and blue sky. It reminded me of the time in Koh Chang when I sat on a railing and spoke to all the hippies wandering past. Here on Rotto the passersby had brewskie cans in their hands, not those funny cigarettes.
As you can see in this first picture, I thought I had 'borrowed' MUM's UV cream. However, it turned out to be her fake tan one instead. Fortunately I had not put any on my nose. I got not only a clip around the baldies but I had to have a bath as well. Now I am now back to 'normal' - whatever that means... I'm looking forward to my next Rotto adventure when MUM and DAD forget they have been there twice already! |
The Pinnacles
Not long after the festive season, MUM and DAD decided to go on a road trip along the Turquoise Coast, to check the pinnacles they had previously visited over 40 years ago! It was an amazing experience as the rocks were really weird. This emu was taking a stroll looking for his pals who had disappeared in a sand storm. A bunch of tourists jumped out of their car and tried to take selfies with him. I sat in one of the pinnacles to get them to take pictures of me, but they refused when I asked for a donation to give to the emu who had run away from them.

Rock LOBSTER
The next day we visited the Lobster Shack at Cervantes. I was on my best behaviour and MUM let me have a nibble of her lobster. As you can see he was a beauty and it was the first time I had ever tried one. Now I know why humans eat seafood. This was simply the best!
OH HAPPY DAY!
Last night DAD sat me down in front of the TV with a trio of brewskies to watch the latest series which showed TED's early years. It was just brilliant as TED was always a skank. I had to pretend to cover my eyes and ears a few times just in case 'she who must be obeyed' turned off the TV. It has been a long time between films. The first TED I saw was in 2012 when MUM bought a copy on DVD off a Rastafarian at the market in Grenada and then, in 2015, MUM and DAD took me to the preview of TED 2 in Sydney and I met my hero. But this early version is simply the best! Oh Happy Day indeed...
INVASION DAY IN WA
MUM and DAD got up early and set off into the city to attend the Invasion Day rally. I hopped into MUM's bag and managed to take these pictures on her mobile phone. I think that Indigenous people are very patient as they are still waiting for truth to set them free and, maybe one day, they will get the 'yes' vote as well. My paws are crossed for all of the above.
ROTTNEST AGAIN...
Well, MUM always says that things come in threes and here we are again on Rottnest - aka Paradise... This time we took Beans along to meet all my quokka mates. As you can see he met my pal from the Rotto pub and they spent ages chatting and getting to know one another. Me and Beans spent hours sitting on the balcony railing at our 'villa' enjoying the sunshine and trying to figure out a way we could sneak out of MUM's bag and stay behind. Our pals even painted this sign to invite us back again. Quokkas are simply the best!
RALLY FOR THE RELEASE OF JULIAN ASSANGE
Just gimme some truth...
