BRISBANE
During the school holidays MUM and DAD whisked me off to Brisbane and we went on a mini-excursion around Northern NSW. As you can see I am not very happy as I knew what I was in for. I would have preferred to stay home and 'borrow' Bertie's keys and gone for a few spins around town. Oh woe is me...
I decided to read the sequel to Shantaram which I had read a couple of years ago. It was a big mistake as it was so scary. I hid for hours after I finished it because some of the characters reminded me of the skanks in our neighbourhood who I sometimes hang out with. I wanted to fess up and tell MUM why I was so scared but decided that it wasn't worth the clips around the ears. |
The BIG PEOPLE dragged me off to GOMA and on the way we visited the Freedom Exhibition and saw this sign in support of the same sex marriage vote. I am keeping my paws crossed that it gets through as I love going to weddings and we have lots of same sex pals. I saw this jumpsuit on display at the exhibition and stupidly told MUM she should look for one next time she is in Target. Ouch!

Imagine my surprise when I discovered this little doorway in a corner of the gallery at GOMA. I found these two mice hiding - they are called Roy and Matilda. The gallery attendant told me that they come out at night when the gallery is closed and check to make sure everything is okay. I didn't have the heart to tell the attendant that they whispered to me that in fact they party 'til dawn most nights and that the statues around the gallery all come alive!
MUM and DAD were exhausted by everyone singing out of tune and we finished our burgers and went back to our hotel. I snuck out later when they were sound asleep and met up with the karaoke singers at the local Irish pub and we downed a few brewskies. The next thing I knew I woke up face down on the football game table. I was feeling so hung over and had spewed honey balls everywhere. I scurried back to our hotel before the BIG PEOPLE woke up. I just sat there with a look of resignation on my face and in the back of my head a voice kept saying, "what fresh hell awaits?"
We ended up visiting Margaret Olley's studio in Murwillumbah. She was one of the most famous Australian painters and lived near the Hood in Sydney. All her belongings were transported up north and re-arranged in the middle of the gallery. She had so much stuff and I noticed a few bears stashed around her living room. They warned me not to hide as there was so much dust and they all had hay-fever.
Unfortunately the opera had a weird affect on me as I could not stop thinking about it and was traumatised when everyone died. I even felt sorry for the camels that were paraded in front of the stage as one got a big fright and did a big poop when the fireworks were let off. I thought the opera was only sung by fat ladies and kept asking MUM why she didn't audition. When I got a mighty clip around the ears (from you know who) heaps of sand fell out and when I finally went off to bed my ears were ringing and I had the worse nightmares. All I can say is, what happened in Coolangatta can stay in Coolangatta.
We ended up at the local pub watching the NRL final. I had a smashing time as even though I had never watched it before, I joined in with the crowd cheering each time the Melbourne Storm scored a try - whatever that means? Everyone was in a great mood and I was very popular 'cause I kept shouting the locals to drinks. MUM was very upset when she discovered that I had maxed out her credit card. It was declined when she went on a binge at the Target sale and she had to put everything back on the rack. She said that I had too many bad habits. When I reminded her who taught me everything I know I got another almighty clip around the baldies. She paid me back by plonking me in the dryer for an hour - after my much needed bath - when we got home. She said I always have my head in the clouds, just like in this last picture...
